Restriction digests of the clone give the following sizes (kb): EcoRI--3.68, 0.68; HindIII--4.3; BamHI--4.3; PstI--3.5, 0.7; PvuII--uncut.
This represents a variant of alphoid DNA repeat with an estimated copy number of approximately 2000 per haploid genome.
With less stringent washing conditions, the probe detects some signal on chromosomes 2, 8, 9, and 20 in addition to the strong signal on 18.
EcoRI multimers of 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 segregate with chromosome 18 in mapping panels.
