This is tissue culture adapted from mouse preparation ATCC VR-114 which was isolated in 1956, Port of Spain, British West Indies, from brain of bat [Artibeus literatus palmarum].

Can be passed serially (i.c.) in adult mice, animals become ill in 5-7 days and die within 24 hours with evidence of CNS involvement. The natural clinical illness in bats resembles that produced by rabies virus. Antigenic relationship to Junin virus of Argentinian and to Machupo virus of Bolivian hemorrhagic fevers has been demonstrated by means of the CF test.
